The institute is  conceptualised &  supported by  Ghanashyam  Hemalata  Vidya Mandir Society keeping in view the present day challenges &those to come in future.GHITM is fast developing into an Institute of excellence in the field of Technical Education in this part of India.It is a unique Institution run  by the  Society  funded by members of  labour unions.

Sj. G.S.Jena is a pioneer in the field of Trade Union Movement in India.By dint of his hard labour,dedication and clear vision,Sj. Jena occupies a premier place among the TradeUnion Leadership in India. Sj Jena is the Founder of All India Food Corporation of India Workers Union,Founder president of Paradip Port & Dock Majdoor Union,All India Food &Allied Workers Union&All India Petroleum products handling & Carrier Employees Union. He is also the Founder Chairman of FCI Workers Co-op. Credit Society Ltd. & Ghanashyam Hemalata Vidyamandir Society, the mother of all its Educational Institutions. Sj. Jena, because of his close association with the working class people, could visualize that lack of proper education is the root of all the sufferings of human being.This great truth of life prompted Sj. Jena to establish some organization to educate the children of working class people & thus took birth of GHVM Society, an educational & charitable organization.Initially starting with a residential school at puri, now the society boasts of the ownership of chain of schools apart from its premier product "The GHITM". All the Institutions have been financed & patronized by the workers belonging to the various aforesaid union & thus “The GHITM” may be the only of its kind in the country to have been founded by the hard earned money of the working class people of India.

The  Institute is located on  Puri   Konark highway,popularly known asMarine Drive, about 15 km from puri. The  Institute  campus is spread over approximately 152 acres of picturesque land at Rasnanda Jena Vihar &is sorrounded by a high security wall  for  providing  adequate  safety. The  land is  lush  green  & provides  for the  ideal ambience for dedicated  pursuit of  knowledge. The aim of the  Institute  is to  strive  for  excellence  in the field of Technical Education.
